FAQs

How long is a typical therapy session?

A typical therapy session is 50 minutes, though longer sessions and intensives are available up to 3 hours.

How often do we meet?

In the initial stages of therapy, we typically meet on a weekly basis to establish a strong therapeutic relationship, explore your concerns and develop treatment goals. This provides consistency and support as we work through the challenges you're facing, and begin the healing process.

Therapy progresses and you start to feel more stable and make progress towards her goals, sessions may transition to biweekly to allow for continued support and reflection on your growth. This phase allows for deeper exploration and integration of therapeutic work while maintaining regular contact and progress monitoring.

As you continue to make strides in your healing journey, and feel more confident in managing your emotions and challenges, sessions may eventually become monthly. Monthly sessions provide ongoing support, check-ins, and opportunities to address any emerging issues, or celebrate your achievements, while promoting independence and self-awareness in maintaining your well-being.

The transition from weekly to biweekly and then monthly sessions as a collaborative process based on your progress, needs, therapeutic goals, and personal preference. Reflects the evolving nature of therapy in the gradual shift towards greater autonomy and self-care, as you continue to build resilience and work towards long-term healing and growth.

Do you accept Insurance?

My practice operates on a private pay basis to maintain the integrity and quality of our therapeutic work. This means that clients are responsible for covering the cost of therapy sessions directly, without involving insurance or third-party payers.

Operating on a private pay model, we are able to prioritize the individual needs of each client, maintain confidentiality, and provide personalized and comprehensive care without the constraints or limitation's often associated with insurance billing. This allows for a more flexible and client centered approach to therapy, ensuring that the focus remains on your well-being and the therapeutic process.

Private pay is an investment in wellness that also allows for greater autonomy and control over the therapeutic journey, as it eliminates the need for insurance companies to dictate the duration or type of treatment provided. This ensures that therapy is tailored to your specific needs, goals, and preferences, promoting a more collaborative and effective therapeutic experience.

What does therapy look like?

Integrative trauma therapy may include other modalities I am trained in such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing and Attachment Based Therapy.

An essential part of our work together will be around learning coping skills that are essential for managing distress, regulating emotions, and maintaining stability during and after EMDR sessions. These may include: grounding techniques, self soothing strategies, emotional regulation skills, cognitive restructuring, safety planning, resource building, and self-care practices. These ensure that clients are empowered to navigate the therapeutic process with greater resilience, self-awareness, and emotion regulation. These skills provide a foundation for healing and growth as clients work through their trauma and move towards a place of healing and empowerment.

How do you integrate EMDR therapy into your practice for treating trauma?

In my practice, I integrate attachment-informed EMDR therapy as a powerful tool for treating trauma. EMDR (eye-movement, desensitization and reprocessing) is a specialized therapy approach that helps individuals process, traumatic memories and experiences in a safe and structured manner. It includes the following stages:

  1. Assessment and preparation: before starting therapy, a conductor, thorough assessment to understand the clients history, trauma experiences, and current symptoms and stressors. I also ensure that the client is prepared and has the necessary coping skills to safely engage in EMDR therapy.

  2. Establishing Safety and Trust: a strong therapeutic alliance is essential in trauma therapy. I create a safe and supportive environment where the client feels comfortable and trusts the therapeutic process.

  3. Target Identification: together with a client, we identify specific traumatic memories or experiences to target during EMDR therapy. These targets are process to reduce the emotional distress associated with them.

  4. Bilateral Stimulation (BLS): Forms of BLS include sounds, tapping, or eye movements. These are used to stimulate both sides of the brain and helps the brain process, traumatic memories and re-process them in a more adaptive way.

  5. Processing and Integration: processing with BLS targets, distressing memories, thoughts, emotions, physical, sensations, and distressing images. Through the EMDR process, these elements are processed and integrated, leading to a reduction in distress in the creation of new, more positive associations.

  6. Closure and re-evaluation: each EMDR session ends with a closure phase to ensure the client feels grounded and safe. We also reevaluate the progress made, and identify any new targets for future sessions.

  7. Follow-Up and Integration: after completing EMDR therapy, we work on integrating the insights and changes achieved into daily life. Follow up sessions may be scheduled to monitor progress and provide ongoing support.
